DART: Online advertising created most traffic to new light rail stations!


In the summer of 2002, DART wanted to inform the public about new light rail stations opening in North Dallas and to encourage commuters to ride the new rail.

In June 2002, DART began a full multi-channel advertising campaign to promote the opening of the new light rail stations in North Dallas. The multi-media campaign included an aggressive and diversified online component. For example, DART scheduled online banners, tiles, and EyeBlaster® rich media ads on WFAA.com and DallasNews.com.

DART tracked the effectiveness of all mediums used in the campaign. WFAA.com and DallasNews.com created more new traffic to the light rail stations in North Dallas than all other advertising sources!

Today, DART continues to use DallasNews.com and WFAA.com to promote it's services.

In September 2002, Cinemark USA, Inc., a large motion picture exhibitor in North America, began using our permission-based email product, MySpecialsDirect, to introduce a new theatre location to consumers that lived in close proximity. They sent a single email promoting the IMAX Cinemark Theatre to individuals with interests in movies and entertainment that lived within a five-mile radius of the theatre.

The email had an off-the-chart open rate of 81% and an outstanding 10% click-through rate! Obviously impressed by the success of the first email, Cinemark launched a second campaign within two weeks. But rather than promote one theatre, individuals within the key zip codes of all Cinemark theatres in surrounding areas were targeted. The second campaign also saw great results with a 65% open rate and 6% click-through rate!

Cinemark continues to send MySpecialsDirect emails and has experimented with targeting different key demographics, including the Hispanic population.
